Reid Schoenfelder’s music career launched in 1989 as the lead singer and guitarist for the Baltimore-based band The Wanting Seed. They toured up and down the east coast and their album, Valerian, was in heavy rotation on numerous indie and college radio stations. The Wanting Seed also opened for numerous national acts including Tommy Keene; Aimee Mann; The Posies; Shoes; Material Issue; Ultra Vivid Scene; Trashcan Sinatras; The Samples; Dillon Fence; Dramarama; Tripping Daisy; Dave Sharp (The Alarm); The Aquanettas; The Cave Dogs, and Good Charlotte.
Reid is an accomplished and creative guitarist and a gifted lyricist. Although his lyrics are distinctly autobiographical, the compositional aspect of his music is as familiar as an old friend and rings true with his alt-rock roots. “I really like writing songs that people feel instantly familiar with,” states Schoenfelder. “I really aim to make songs that people can’t get out of their head.” Lush vocal harmonies meet relentless guitar hooks and candid words that forge an amalgamation of power pop that draws comparison to Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn, and Matthew Sweet.
Reid was the winner of The Akademia Music Award for Best Acoustic Rock Song for “All the Girls” in the June 2016 Akademia Music Awards. Turner Broadcasting bought Schoenfelder’s song “What She Wants” for use in the Sci-Fi television series “Firstwave” for the episode “All About Eddie.”
